The Hallbankgate Pig Project

A small pig project was set up in Hallbankgate (north-east Cumbria) by me, Stephen Manders in 2008, but is supported by a few other members of the community with some having equal shared ownership of the 2 breeding sows.

Our goal is to produce good quality meat whilst meeting high animal welfare needs of the pigs. They are mostly out-door reared, with access to straw and area to root.

I would like to acknowledge the support of a local farmer by loaning the project a small piece of land - thank you.

A small number of pigs are used for the hog roast business and others are sold to the public as half-sides of pork (butchered and ready for the freezer). If interested in purchasing pork please contact me at smanders@btinternet.com or phone 07804918348
